note for (a):
1. blackbird has a choice of consuming caterpillar and/or snail.
2. both caterpillar & snail are slow-moving.
3. but caterpillar has an advantage over snail even though snail has a hard shell to protect itself.
4. caterpillar can camouflage itself among the leaves, snail can be easily spotted by the blackbird, esp. if there is an increase in the snail population.
5. so increase in snail population can cause an increase in caterpillar population
note for(b):
1. blackbird has to consume a lot of snail each time. hence, the poison would accumulate within the blackbird
2. when owl prey on the blackbird, the poison is then passed onto the owl.
