$5.60 = $3.40 + $2.20
$5.60 = $3.40 + $0.22 x 10
max dist. = 1000 m + 400x10 m
= 5000 m or 5 km
(b)
11 km = 1 km + 10 000 m
11 km = 1 km + 400x25 m
fare = $3.40 + 25x$0.22 = $8.90
total fare incl. surcharge
= 8.90+3 = $11.90
...

Remember to add on the surcharge for part b . Most students forgot about the surcharge , hence lost marks for this question
