Method 1 is to use general formula.

Method 2, which I will not write here, is plain expansion from the first term all the way until you obtain the a^4 b^4.

It would be the fifth term in this case. In the expansion of (something)^8, there will be a total of 9 terms (powers 0 to 8).

The middle term a^4 times b^4 will be nicely the middle of the 9-term expansion, which will be the fifth term.
