The slant height of the cone is 5cm as it's formed from the radius of the remaining sector. This radius is not the same as the radius of the cone.

Slant height , cone radius and height can be taken as sides of a right angled triangle.

Apply Pythagoras' Theorem,

r² + h² = 5²

r² = 25 - h²

area of cone

= ⅓πr²h

= ⅓π(25 - h²)h
= ⅓π(25h - h³)
