For the start, you could draw model first.

Bag → 1 unit
Shoes → 1 unit + $9.60
Total → 2 units + $9.60

Hence,
2u + 9.60 → 57.60
2u → 48
1u → 48 ÷ 2 = 24
24 + 9.60 = 33.60

Bag: $24
Shoes: $33.60 (a)

Since the bag was given 25% discount, it was sold at 75% of usual price.
75% → $24
1% → $0.32
25% → $8

We found that discount given to the bag is $8. It means the discount given to the shoes is:
$22.40 - $8 = $14.40

The usual price of the shoes is:
$33.60 + $14.40 = $48

To find the percentage discount, we have to find the fraction first:
14.40/48 = 3/10

Then, we convert the fraction into percentage discount:
3/10 x 100% = 30% (b)
