Girls = 1 unit
Boys = 1 unit + 18
Total = 2 units + 18
Team B :
has the same number of students
= 2 units + 18
There are 8 more girls than boys.
To find the number of boys, take away 8 girls such that the number of boys and girls is the same.
2 units + 18 - 8 = 2 units + 10
Now the number girls = boys, which just means the number of pupils = 2 times of number of boys.
So number of boys in Team B
= (2 units + 10) ÷ 2
= 1 unit + 5
Compare this and boys in Team A,
Difference = 18 - 5 = 13
There are 13 more boys in Team A than B
b)
Total boys = 1 unit + 5 + 1 unit + 18
= 2 units + 23
Total boys also = 37
So 2 units + 23 = 37
2 units = 37 - 23 = 14
1 unit = 14 ÷ 2 = 7
Total number of pupils
= (2 units + 18) x 2
= 4 units + 36
= 4 x 7 + 36
= 28 + 36
= 64
Total girls = total pupils - total boys
= 64 - 37
= 27
