Hi Angelina! The equations in part i and part ii are related since the substitution has been used.

The solutions in part ii and part iii would therefore have the same (real root is u = 2 or 3^x = 2).

We then proceed to solve the equation 3^x = 2 which is solveable by applying logs on both sides to bring the power down.

From part ii) , you've shown that the only real solution is u = 2. Since u = 3^x, then 3^x = 2. x = log3(2) = ln2/ln3 (or lg2/lg3) ≈ 0.631 (3.s.f)
