Let the number of boys be b,
(b-1) x 12 + 7 = total
b x 10 + 25 = total
10b + 25 = 12b + 7 - 12
2b = 30
b = 15
Number of boys = 15
15 x 10 + 25 = 175 stamps

For the line (b-1) x 12 + 7 you need to minus 1 because the last boy gets only 7 while b x 10 + 25 you don’t need to minus 1 because 25 is the leftover.
