You've already noticed that any number you get by subtracting or adding 8 to a particular number you pick will be on the same column as that picked number.



So we work backwards from 1134 to find which column it's in.


1134 - 1000 = 134

Notice that 1000 ÷ 8 = 125.

So 1000 is exactly divisible by 8.

So we can subtract 8 (go backwards by 8 numbers) for 125 times.

We get to 134, which has the same column as 1134.

134 is in column E, so 1134 is also in column E.



The trick here is to pick a number that is divisible by 8 and subtract it from 1134 such that we get as close as possible to the numbers in the pattern , to check which column it's in.
