Town B to Town C : 7 units
Town A to Town B : 1 unit

Total = 8 units

Town A to Town B + Town B to Town C
= Town A to town C

So 8 units = 48km

1 unit = 48km ÷ 8 = 6km

So Town A to Town B = 6km

By the way, this question is poorly designed.

There are two curved paths in this question, one from town A to town C directly and the other passing through town B first.

This additive method can only work if the towns are aligned (in a straight line) or if we assumed that the two curved paths are the same distance (which was not told in the question, and from visual inspection the two curved paths don't look like they are the same distance at all)
