You can try answering the question this way, hopefully it makes sense.
1a) The water is being drained at a constant rate of 50ml per minute resulting in a constant decrease of water from the tank.
1b) Koon Yang (KY) drove at a constant speed of 80km/h (Speed = Distance / Time) therefore he is constantly increasing the distance covered to reach Malaysia.
