There are 70 more plates than bowls. So subtract the cost of the 70 plates first.

70 x $16 = $1120

$2245 - $1120 = $1125

So $1125 is the cost of all the bowls and an equal number of plates.

Since there are equal number of plates and bowls now, pair each bowl with another plate.


Cost of 1 pair of a bowl and plate
= $16 + $9 = $25

$1125 ÷ $25 = 45

There are 45 pairs. So there are 45 bowls
