In this case the direction does not matter at all. Both Sarah and Vincent travel the same distance.

Vincent travels at 24 km/h and Sarah travels at 16 km/h.

One common multiple of 24 and 16 is 48. For every 48 km travelled, Vincent would take 2 hours and Sarah would take 3 hours, with a 1 hour difference.

This means that for every 48 km, Sarah takes 1 hour, or 60 minutes, longer than Vincent.

For every 12 km, Sarah takes 15 minutes longer than Vincent.

For every 36 km, Sarah takes 45 minutes longer than Vincent.

The distance between the two towns must have been 36 km, where Vincent took 1 hour 30 minutes and Sarah took 2 hours 15 minutes.

See 1 Answer

Vincent: 24km/h: 3
Sarah: 16km/h : 2
Ratio Vincent: Sarah = 3:2
Different = 1u

Distance: Sarah
Time : 45 min = 0.75h
Speed: 16 km/h
Distance = 0.75 x 16 = 12km

Therefore 1u= 12km
Total distance = 3u =3x12 = 36km
