Notice that the number of buttons is always 2 more than the figure number.
So for 129 buttons, it's figure 127
Figure 1 has 3 sticks. After that, everytime when you go to the next figure , 2 sticks are added.
Figure 1 : 3 sticks = 2 + 1
Figure 2 : 5 sticks = 2 + 2 + 1 = 2 x 2 + 1
Figure 3 : 7 sticks = 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 2 x 3 + 1
so it's always (figure number x 2) + 1
Figure 17 :
17 x 2 + 1 = 34 + 1 = 35
