Radius of circle = 14cm ÷ 2 = 7cm

Area of 1 circle
= πr²
= 22/7 x 7cm x 7cm = 154cm²

Area of the 3 outer shaded segments
= area of middle circle - area of triangle
= 154cm² - 56cm² = 98cm²

Area of each shaded segment
= 98cm² ÷ 3
= 32⅔cm²

Join each of A , B and C to the centre of the circle by drawing lines. You have now divided the triangle into 3 identical smaller triangles.

Area of each smaller triangle
= 56cm² ÷ 3
= 18⅔ cm²

Notice that each small shaded leaf inside the middle circle has been divided into 2 half leaves.

Each smaller triangle contains 2 half leaves and each inner segment contains 4 half leaves

The inner segment and outer shaded segment have the same area.

Subtract the area of smaller triangle from
area of inner segment to find the area of 2 half leaves.

2 half leaves
= 32⅔cm² - 18⅔cm²
= 14cm²

There are a total of 6 half leaves (which make up 3 leaves)
and 6 = 2 x 3

So the area of 6 half leaves
=14 cm² x 3
= 42cm²

Area of shaded parts
= Area of the 6 half leaves + area of the 3 outer shaded segments

= 42cm² + 98cm²
= 140cm²
