Yes, this is also the most commonly taught method.

You could also add 34 to make Valerie have the same number as Simon.

Then you have 5 units

656 + 34 = 690
690 ÷ 5 = 138
138 - 34 = 104

Add in the 34 to Valerie's share, she will have the same as Simon. Only when the units are all equal, then you can divide.
