Cut each semicircle into two quarter circles.

There are two shaded quarter circles and two small curved shaded areas.

Each shaded quarter circle can be combined with a small curved shaded area to form a square that is 10cm by 10cm.

Shaded parts = 2 squares


Alternatively, draw a straight line from one end of the big quadrant to the other end. You'll notice the two half-leaves on top can be fitted into the unshaded leaf below.

What you get is a large shaded triangle with equal base and height of 20cm. The area is the same as two squares.
