You can combine one small curved shaded area with the small shaded quadrant to get a small shaded square.

The other small curved shaded area can be combined with the big curved shaded area to get a larger shaded area. You can find this area by subtracting the big quadrant from the large square.

Small shaded square has half the length of the big square. So it's area = 10cm x 10cm = 100cm²

The larger shaded area = 20cm x 20cm - ¼ x 3.14 x 20cm x 20cm

= 400cm² - 314cm²
= 86cm²


Total shaded area = 86cm² + 100cm² = 186cm²
