No need model for this question. Trick is to change the denominator to the same number.

Morning : 2/9 = 4/18
Afternoon : 1/3 = 6/18

Fraction of toy cars sold altogether
= 4/18 + 6/18 = 10/18 = 5/9


10/18 means 10 cars out of 18 cars. So 10 cars were sold


However if teacher requires model to be drawn,

Draw 9 boxes/units. Each unit is 2 toy cars.
(18 ÷ 9 = 2, or 2 x 9 = 18)

Morning = 2/9 , means two boxes
Afternoon = 1/3 = 3/9, means three boxes

Total = five boxes = 2 cars x 5 = 10 cars
