Every cow has 4 legs. Every duck has 2 legs.

Since there are 3 times as many ducks as cows, we group each cow with 3 ducks.

In one group, there are 3 ducks so they have a total of 3 x 2 legs = 6 legs. The 1 cow has 4 legs.

So total number of legs in one group is 4 + 6 = 10

Since there are 400 legs in total,

400 ÷ 10 = 40

There are 40 groups.

Since there are 4 animals per group (1 cow and 3 ducks),

Total number of animals
= 40 x 4
= 160
