For this question, you need to make use of these properties :

log(a) + log(b) = log(a x b) = log(ab) ①

log(a) - log(b) = log(a ÷ b) = log (a/b) ②

a log(b) = log(b^a) ③

So lg(3x) + lg(4y) - lg(x²/y)

= lg(3x × 4y) - lg(x²/y)
(Property ①)

= lg(12xy) - lg(x²/y)

= lg(12xy ÷ x²/y)
(Property ②)

= lg(12xy × y/x²)

= lg(12y²/x)

Try part b on your own. You will need property ③. The final answer is ln(y^6/x²) or 2ln(y³/x).
