A : B is 120 : 100 = 6 : 5
After A gives $160 to B,
B has 75% more than A
A : B is 100 : 175 = 4 : 7
So before, it’s 6 : 5. After the giving, it’s 4 : 7.
Just nice that 2 units are removed from A and 2 units are added to B, so there is no need to change the ratio. The 2 units transfer correspond to $160.
2 units —> $160
1 unit —> $160 / 2 = $80
The question wants the initial amount of 6 units and 5 units.
6 units —> $80 x 6 = $480
5 units —> $80 x 5 = $400
So A has $480 initially and B has $400 initially. Their total sum of money is $880.
Check. 480 is 20% more than 400. The new values are 320 and 560, and 560 is 75% more than 320.
