converting to sines and cosines method for part i) :

tanx + 1/tanx

= sinx/cosx + cosx/sinx

= ((sinx)(sinx) + (cosx)(cosx)) / (sinxcosx)

= (sin²x + cos²x)/(sinxcosx)

= 1/(sinxcosx) (proved)

Alternatively you can convert your tangents to sines and cosines first. The intuition is that at the end of the day you have sines and cosines so perhaps you can convert everything to sines and cosines from the get go.
