AD = 26cm - 22cm = 4cm

Unshaded triangle and triangle ABC are similar (all 3 corresponding angles are the same)

base of ABC = 24cm
base of unshaded triangle = AD = 4cm

Ratio of base of ABC to unshaded triangle's base = 24 : 4 = 6 : 1

For similar triangles, ratio of their corresponding sides are the same.

So height of ABC : height of unshaded triangle = 6 : 1

Since height of ABC = 10cm, height of unshaded triangle = 10cm ÷ 6 = 1⅔cm

Area of unshaded triangle = ½ x 1⅔cm x 4cm = 3⅓cm²

Area of ABC = ½ x 10cm x 24cm
= 120cm²

Shaded area = 120cm² - 3⅓cm² = 116⅔cm²
