Well done! You are at the right step already! Note that lg 3 divided by lg 2 is just an ordinary number, so the equation becomes

(x + 1)/x = k where k is your computed number

We make x the subject.

x + 1 = kx
kx - x = 1
x (k - 1) = 1
x = 1/(k - 1)

Also, we write (x + 1) lg 2 rather than x + 1 lg 2

This is because

x + 1 lg 2

is interpreted as x + lg 2 (multiplication comes before addition, whereas brackets come before outside multiplication)
