Point 1:For a number to be divisible by 5, the ones place of the number must be 0 or 5.

Point 2: Numbers that are divisible by 40 have zero in the ones place.

Thus for the number in question that divided by 40 have a remainder of 12 will have 2 in the ones place.

To make the number divisible by 5, need to add 3 to the number
