You want to show ABX congruent to DAY, so that means you have to work with the congruence rule. We only know for sure that length AB is the same as length AD. Hence the rule for congruency that should be used is Angle-Angle-Side as we only know 1 side. Then work backwards to prove the corresponding angles as shown in the solution.
