Tried to use 82 x 3 = 246, then 246 + 5 = 251
But when i double check by using 251 divide by 3, i cannot get remainder 5.

Please kindly help to explain, thanks

Yes. When divide by 3 should not have remainder more than 3. This question wrong. :(

Technically it’s not fully wrong.

Based on the question, your answer 251 is correct.

But usually when we do division, we say that 251 divided by 3 is 83 with remainder 2, rather than 82 with remainder 5.

In problem sums, it will sound like this: “251 sweets are to be divided into 3 students, each receiving 82 sweets, how many sweets are there left?”, in which case this makes a bit more sense than asking the question directly as the case in the actual question.

Of course the convention which we learn is that remainders should not equal to or exceed the divisor.
