Length of 1 breadth + 1 length of an unshaded rectangle = 6cm
Length of 2 breadth + 2 length of unshaded rectangle = 6cm x 2 = 12cm
Breadth of bottom shaded rectangle
= 13.2cm - 12cm = 1.2cm
Notice that :
1 breadth of bottom shaded rectangle + 1 breadth of unshaded rectangle= 1 length of unshaded rectangle
so 2 length of unshaded rectangle
= 1 length of unshaded rectangle + 1 breadth of unshaded rectangle + 1 breadth of bottom shaded rectangle
= 6cm + 1.2cm = 7.2cm
1 length of unshaded rectangle
= 7.2cm ÷ 2 = 3.6cm
1 breadth of unshaded rectangle
= 6cm - 3.6cm
= 2.4cm
Area of shaded parts
= Area of whole figure - area of 8 unshaded rectangle
= 13.2cm x 6cm - 8 x 3.6cm x 2.4 cm
= 79.2cm² - 69.12cm²
= 10.08cm²
