You can also use reasoning from the point where y2 = 1 - (n - 4)2.

If the line does not meet the curve, y2 < 0 (because this will not get you any value for y so this represents zero points of intersection).

This means that 1 - (n - 4)2 < 0 and you will be solving this inequality for the range of values of n.

Similar argument applies for the other two cases.
