Realise that Q + R gives you a triangle.

This triangle has the same height as the rectangle and its base is the length of the rectangle.

So, this tells you that the triangle's area is ½ of the rectangle. And therefore S+T must be also ½ the area of the rectangle since S and T occupies the rest of the rectangle

Thanks understood now. Ans will be 18/4=4.5. Area of P is 4.5
