Remaining money = 1 - 5/8 = 3/8 = 6/16

So we can let total money be 16 units, and remaining money be 6 units.

Since each marker cost 1/6 of remaining money, each marker's cost is 1 unit.

Cost of 7 markers = 7 units

Money spent = 5/8 = 10/16
So that's 10 units.

Cost of purse = 10 units - 7 units = 3 units

Difference between 7 markers and purse
= 7 units - 3 units
= 4 units

4 units = $12
1 unit = $12 ÷ 3 = $4

Amount Jiale had at first = 16 units
= 16 x $4
= $64
