Realise that two triangles have the same base length and same height. So their area is the same.

Triangle ABD and BDC have the same height and same base length. The question has already given you the area of one of them. So you can find ABD easily.

As for b) , since EDC is smaller than BDC, the answer for b) has to be smaller than BDC's area.

They have same base but height is different. May I know why the height is the same?

It is clearly stated in the question that BC is the height of triangles BDC and ABD

So why do you say the height is different? Did you mistake the slant height for the vertical height?
