1 ÷ 4 = 1/4

Each girl supposed to pay 1/4 of the cake price

But due to the error in calculation, 1 ÷ 3
= 1/3

Each girl paid 1/3 of the price.


1/3 - 1/4 = 4/12 - 3/12 = 1/12

So each girl paid 1/12 more than they needed to. And 1/12 of the price = $2.40

Correct share = 3/12 = $2.40 x 3 = $7.2)
