Good evening Irah! We are given the data 65 litres for the large backpack and 40 litres for the small backpack. This is a volume ratio comparison of 65:40 or 13:8 or 1.625:1 in short.

To compare heights (or any length in one dimension), we need to use a length ratio comparison. This can be done by cube rooting the volume ratio. So we need to cube root 1.625 : 1 to get 1.1... : 1 as the length ratio before you find the height of the smaller backpack by dividing 80 by this 1.1... number.

To obtain the area ratio, we need to square the length ratio.
