Let the number be x
4 times the number is 4x
Subtracting from 68 means 68 - 4x
Three times the sum of the number and 4 means three times of (x + 4); that’s 3 (x + 4)
Put them all into an equation and equate them

68 - 4x = 3 (x + 4)
68 - 4x = 3x + 12

Bring over x to right side and non x to left side

68 - 12 = 4x + 3x
56 = 7x
So x = 8
