Square A + Rectangle B before overlapping = 23 units
unshaded area = 17 units
Realise that unshaded area + 2 shaded area = Square A + Rectangle B
17 units + 2 shaded area = 23 units
2 shaded area = 23 units - 17 units
= 6 units
1 shaded area = 6 units ÷ 2 = 3 units
Ratio of shaded area to Square A + Rectangle B before overlapping = 3 : 23

I not sure need simplest form(6:23), but usually need if don't need then just write 48:184

Not correct. 48cm² is two x the shaded area
