Realise that the total number of bracelets remained the same after exchanging.

Before : the ratio is 5 : 11
Total units = 5 + 11 = 16

After : the ratio = 3 : 5
Total units = 3 + 5 = 8

Since number of bracelets remained the same, make the number of units the same.

8 x 2 = 16

So 3 : 5 = 6 : 10

From 5 : 11→ 6 : 10
There is a increase of 1 unit for gold bracelets, and a decrease of 1 unit for jade bracelets.

So 1 unit = 8 bracelets

Number of gold bracelets at first
= 5 units
= 5 x 8
= 40
