a) Notice that the width of the cardboard fits the circle exactly.

So diameter of 1 circle = 25cm

Length of cardboard = 3m = 300cm

300cm ÷ 25cm = 12

12 circles can be cut.


b) Area of 12 circles = 12πr²

= 12 x 3.14 x (25cm ÷ 2)²
= 12 x 3.14 x 12.5cm x 12.5cm
= 5887.5cm²

Area of cardboard
= 300cm x 25cm
= 7500cm²

Area left after cutting out the circles
= 7500cm² - 5887.5cm²
= 1612.5cm²
