Draw the line EG and FH. You'll get 4 triangles.

Realise that these 4 triangles are the same size as the other 4 triangles surrounding them.

Area EFGH = 2cm x 2cm = 4cm²
= 4 triangles

Area ABCD = area of 8 triangles
= 2 x area of EFGH
