Unshaded area of A = 2/5
Unshaded area of B = 3/8

Unshaded area of A = Unshaded area of B

2/5 of A = 3/8 of B

Since they are the same area, make the numerator the same.

2/5 = 6/15
3/8 = 6/16

So from this you can infer that tota area of A = 15 units, total area of B = 16 units.

Ratio = 15 : 16

The ratio of 9 : 10 refers to the ratio of shaded area of A to shaded area of B

3/5 = 9/15
5/8 = 10/16

2/5 of A is equal to 3/8 of B. Draw a model out and you'll get the area of shaded A:B, which is 9:10
