Common multiple is 300m.

For street A, 100m x 3 = 300m
So number of lampposts in 300m
= 3 x 5 = 15

For street B, 150m x 3 = 300m
So number of lampposts in 300m
= 4 x 2 = 8

Difference in number of lampposts for 300m = 15 - 8 = 7

Since total difference is 119 lampposts,

119 ÷ 7 = 17

There are 17 times of 300m.

Total number of lampposts
= 17 x 15 + 17 x 8
= 17 x 23
= 391

Make the distance of both streets of Shortest Equal Distance..that is your 1 unit.

Find the diff in terms of lamps in 1 unit.

Take the "total difference of both street"(119 lamps) divide by " difference in 1 unit"
->> total number of units

Lastly, multiply the total number of units of each street and add it up to get your answer.

Make them of equal distance of both streets to get 1 unit...so that you can find the difference in 1 unit.

Then divide total differences with "difference in 1 unit".. To get total units

Multiply "lamps in each unit" to the "total number of units" and add them up to get answer.
