Before adding, mass of alloy = 36g - 12g = 24g
Since ratio of copper to zinc = 2 : 3 ,
Total = 5 parts
24g = 5 parts
1 part = 24g ÷ 5 = 4.8g
Mass of copper = 2 parts = 2 x 4.8g = 9.6g
New mass of zinc = 3 parts + 12g
= 3 x 4.8g + 12g
= 14.4g + 12g
= 26.4g
26.4 ÷ 9.6 = 2.75 = 2¾ = 11/4
New ratio of mass of copper to zinc
= 4 : 11
Since ratio of copper to zinc = 2 : 3 ,
Total = 5 parts
24g = 5 parts
1 part = 24g ÷ 5 = 4.8g
Mass of copper = 2 parts = 2 x 4.8g = 9.6g
New mass of zinc = 3 parts + 12g
= 3 x 4.8g + 12g
= 14.4g + 12g
= 26.4g
26.4 ÷ 9.6 = 2.75 = 2¾ = 11/4
New ratio of mass of copper to zinc
= 4 : 11
