If price of tie = 1 unit, then price of watch = 2¾ units
Price of 1 watch and 3 ties
= 2¾ units + 3 x 1 unit
= 5¾ units
So we know 5¾ units = $69
1 unit = $69 ÷ 5¾
= $12
Price of watch = 2¾ units
= 2¾ units x $12
= $33
Alternatively,
Let price of tie be 4 units. So price of watch = 11 units
Total of 1 watch and 3 ties
= 11 units + 3 x 4 units
= 23 units
23 units = $69
1 unit = $69 ÷ 23 = $3
Price of watch = 11 units
= 11 x $3
= $33
Price of 1 watch and 3 ties
= 2¾ units + 3 x 1 unit
= 5¾ units
