Let 3x be the number of non-fiction books Galvin bought.
Then Galvin bought 5x fiction books.

Let 3y be the number of non-fiction books Gavin have not read yet.
Then Galvin have not read 4y fiction books yet.

We know that:

3x - 6 = 3y

5x - 13 = 4y

Simplify:

x - 2 = y

Multiply by 4:

4x - 8 = 4y

So 5x - 13 = 4x - 8.

Rearranging:

x = 5

Hence, Galvin bought 8x = 40 books.
