Let x be the number of marbles Zara has.
Then, Yaozhou has 3x marbles.
Let y be the number of marbles Xavier has.
We can form 2 linear equations:
3x + y = 438
x + y = 204
As we can see, 2x = 438 - 204 = 234.
x = 117
So, the number of marbles Xavier has is 204 - 117 = 87.

You can use the bar method, by replacing x and y with different bars to make it show more clearly.
