Page 1 to 9 : 9 pages, 1 digit per page.

9 x 1 = 9

Page 10 to 99 :
number of pages = (99 - 9) = 90 pages
2 digits per page.

90 x 2 = 180


Total above = 180 + 9 = 189

Number of digits from the 3-digit pages
= 978 - 189 = 789 digits

789 ÷ 3 = 263

So there are 263 3-digit pages.

Since the first 3-digit page is page 100,and there are 263 3-digit pages, the last page of the book must be 262 pages later

→ 100 + 262 = 362

The last page is page 362 and therefore the book has 362 pages.
