Formula for any triangle is half times base times height. We count the number of squares in each direction to find the base and height of the triangle. I take the horizontal line to be the 'base' and the vertical line to be the 'height'.

In Q1, from left to right there are 10 squares, so the length is 10 'units'. From top to bottom, there are 7 squares, so the height is '7' units.

Then, the area of the triangle is 1/2 times 10 units times 7 units = 35 square units.

Counting the number of more-than-half-occupied square grids as an estimate is not a good method here.
