The reaction idea is

nickel metal + copper carbonate --> ??
copper metal + nickel carbonate --> ??

One of the reactions will proceed, in which case the solo metal in the reaction (not the metal in the metal carbonate) is more reactive than the other.

From there we decide whether to burn, dissolve etc for the experiment. Dissolving in this case is not a good approach as nickel carbonate and copper carbonate are insoluble in water. However, care must be taken while heating the beakers under a Bunsen burner, since such carbonates decompose easily upon heating (giving a false indicator of reaction happening between a metal carbonate and a metal).
