The approach is to substitute a rearranged form of an equation into the same equation.

For the first question I let a = (2a2 + 7) / 3. I then replace one a (from the 2a2) from the original equation with the substituted form for part (i) and then replace both a (from the 2a2) from the original equation with the substituted form.
The other question is very similar. Since the final form does not have a term in a, I replace the unwanted a with the substituted form.
